"Kids on Kids' Health Magazine, the school’s most ambitious project to date, started in the winter of 2006, when Committee Co-chairs Drs. J Huber, Cath Lam, and Michelle Porepa approached school staff about developing a student-driven health magazine that would appeal to and have impact on children’s health. In 2006, the Advocacy Committee received a Canadian Paediatric Society Resident Advocacy Grant of $7000 to support the project.
Focus groups and surveys of Church Street teachers and students informed the magazine’s content and style. Writers were members of the Church Street School Leadership Club, an after school club of grade 5 and 6 students. With support from teachers Yusuf Varachia and Giota Koumbounis, educational assistant Tanya Spasic, the paediatric residents, and graphic artist Deryk Ouseley, the Leadership Club researched, interviewed, wrote, edited, and created Kids on Kids’ Health Magazine."
