We, and our friends Danie and Hilary, took a Thanksgiving weekend holiday to Smithers, BC, which is about a four-hour drive west of Prince George. We had a wonderful time. We stayed Saturday and Sunday night at the Stork Nest Inn - and enjoyed their amazing breakfasts. Danie and I fished, unsuccessfully, for steelhead (which are at 30-year lows this year). I did catch a nice 16" Dolly Varden trout, however. And the autumn colors on the river were amazing. Eli, Joyel, and Hilary took a morning walk while we fished for a few hours. Then we all explored around the Driftwood Canyon fossil beds and over at Idiot Rock, where the Bulkley River narrows into a torrent. On the way back to PG on Sunday, we fished the Stellako River briefly, and then got home for a nice last evening of the long weekend. It was a great trip, and we'll have to head that way again sometime soon! (Click on any picture to enlarge, or just go to our Flickr album of the trip)

Great pictures.
Oh the memories of the Stork Nest. I used to stay there with Scott when we first bought Glacier Toyota.
Were there many people fishing at Idiot Rock? I've only been once and it was crazy. There was no way a rookie like me was going to get involved in that. - D J E and M Huber said...

Yup, the Stork Nest. It may have been rebuilt since last you stayed. They had some "before the fire" pictures in the new building. It was decent, and the breakfasts were good. Some Junior hockey team was there - and was very noisy - on the first night.
At Idiot Rock, there was just one First Nations guy, no crowds. We didn't fish there... just looked. The fish that I caught was across the river from the city park/campground. We didn't go to far afield to fish at all.
