Purple haze

There might be frost tonight - apt for the first night of autumn - so we pulled in the rest of our carrots, tomatoes, and peas. We still have potatoes and brussels sprouts to go, but they can take a bit of frost, so there's no rush.

Our kids are big fans of Uncle Mike's purple carrots. They look good.
We also brought our single tomato plant inside. Hopefully the sun through the window will ripen the last few.

Tomatoes... what a disappointing year. We're going to be looking into green tomato salsa recipes, that's for sure.

What a beautiful shot -- great carrots!

Bad for tomats over here in France too...sadly, for artichokes too!
But, despite all being completely flattened by a very wild hail storm, the sunflowers and sweet corn are smashing (the dear friend staying here during the storm -- we were gone -- spent the following day propping them all up again! It even worked, more or less....)

Ugh. I hate hail. But, wow. I would have thought that sunflowers would have been goners. That's pretty amazing.
